La 5ª Edición del premio Castilla del Pino (2003) fue concedida al Profesor Robin Murray (Institute of Psychiatry. Londres), por su labor en el estudio sobre la esquizofrenia. Este premio le fue concedido en el V Simposium "Esquizofrenia: mas que un misterio, un rompecabezas", celebrado los días 6, 7 y 8 de marzo de 2003.
Fue Decano del Institute of Psychiatry de Londres desde 1982 hasta 1989. En la actualidad es Catedrático de Psiquiatría en dicho Instituto y en la Facultad de Medicina Guy's, King's and St Thomas' (GKT School of Medicine). Entre 1994 y 1996, el Profesor Murray ejerció la Presidencia de la Asociación Europea de Psiquiatría. Se ha especializado en el estudio y tratamiento de los trastornos psicóticos, en especial la esquizofrenia. Como Director del Grupo de Investigación sobre Psicosis del Institute of Psychiatry, dirige a un grupo de más de 100 investigadores que están trabajando en epidemiología, genética molecular, neuropsiquiatría, neuroimagen, neurodesarrollo, neurofarmacología y otros campos afines. Fue uno de los primeros en sugerir que existía un componente neurológico en la esquizofrenia, aunque ahora afirma que también se han de tener en cuenta otros factores no neurológicos como el consumo de drogas o el estrés. Según la publicación ESI ScienceWatch el profesor Murray ha sido el investigador al que más se ha citado en el campo de la esquizofrenia entre 1991 y 2000. Asimismo dirige un equipo clínico en la Unidad Nacional sobre Psicosis, tratando casos de pacientes con patologías psicóticas resistentes provenientes de toda Inglaterra. Curriculum

Robin Murray se licenció en Medicina por la Universidad de Glasgow (Escocia), donde también realizó su postgrado en Medicina Interna (MRCP) en 1972. A continuación hizo la especialidad en Psiquiatría en el Maudsley Hospital de Londres, donde ha continuado trabajando desde entonces.
