Learning Outcomes

The general learning outcomes to be achieved upon completion of the First Degree in Environmental Science are the acquisition of solid theoretical knowledge and practical skills such as oral and written communication, information management, problem solving, critical thinking, environmental awareness, and the interpretation of experimental data and evidence.

In addition, the University of Cordoba has established the following learning outcomes for the entire student body: the acquisition of a second language, the use of ICT-based methodologies, entrepreneurship and the ability to actively seek job opportunities.

The specific learning outcomes of the First Degree in Environmental Science include multidisciplinary data analysis, environmental indices and indicators, mastery of technical protocols and technical language, and the interpretation of environmental legislation. Those preparing for a job in this field must also be able to identify, assess and prevent environmental risks. Some of the greatest challenges facing society today are sustainable water and energy management, wastewater treatment, environmental awareness and environmental education, all of which are areas that demand qualified professionals.

General Objectives Of The First Degree

The objectives of the First Degree in Environmental Science have been defined based on experience gained during the eleven years that this degree has been taught in Spain. In establishing the objectives, current trends in other European countries where this course of studies has a longer-standing tradition, the demands of society, job prospects and market experiences have also been taken into account.

The learning and training objectives for theoretical, technical and applied content are described in the learning outcomes and the professional tracks offered under the degree.

Internships

Doing an internship at outside institutions and companies gives students the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired at university. It is the perfect complement to formal academic training and a highly inspiring experience that is particularly important for those undertaking a scientific and technical degree. The UCO School of Science recognises credits earned through internships. The School of Science currently offers more than 350 internship placements at local, regional and national companies and institutions.

National And International Mobility Programmes

Academic mobility is a fundamental element in the personal and academic development of students. Mobility improves job opportunities, while fostering respect for diversity and the understanding of different cultures. The UCO School of Science participates in a wide range of national and international student mobility programmes to aid students in enhancing their academic training. These include the SICUE-SENECA Programme for mobility between Spanish universities and the ERASMUS and Leonardo da Vinci Programmes in Europe for education and training internships. Other mobility programmes are also available in America and Asia.

Master's And PhD Programmes

The First Degree in Environmental Science provides students direct access to the job market and the opportunity to further their education through Master’s or PhD programmes such as those offered by the University of Cordoba.

What A Environmental Science Graduate Can Do...

Each day we are witnesses to scenes of environmental disasters. If your are interested in recycling, waste treatment, renewable energies, wastewater purification, quality air assessment, the development of sustainable and environmentally-friendly practices, studying ecological environments, environmental planning and conservation, the First Degree in Environmental Science is for you.

The First Degree in Environmental Science at the School of Science of the University of Cordoba offers five academic tracks related to the main sectors in which environmental science graduates can pursue their professional activity:

Environmental Assessment

Structured around environmental impact consulting and assessment and environmental audits, this track prepares students to develop projects, perform studies, draw up reports and provide technical assistance to ensure compliance with current environmental legislation.

Environmental Planning

This track centres on environmental territorial planning, specifically natural risk assessment and prevention through the design, management and development of environmental projects, plans and programmes for urban, industrial or rural areas.

Environmental Management

Professionals in this area are qualified to develop, implement and oversee quality and environmental management systems at private companies and public institutions as well as managing natural, rural and urban environments.

Environmental Technology

The planning and development of environmental infrastructures and viability studies is another professional sphere in which environmental science graduates can work. This track also includes other areas such as energy management and solid and liquid waste management.

Communication and Training

Environmental science graduates can also pursue employment in fields related to environmental training, awareness and education where they will be responsible for disseminating and communicating environmental information.

Why Study Environmental Science?

The First Degree in Environmental Science prepares students to deal with today’s environmental problems in a rigorous and scientific manner and provide solutions to protect and conserve our environment.

Our society needs professionals who are capable of tackling environmental problems from a multidisciplinary approach. Professionals who are successful at bringing together nature, society and industry in a commitment to the sustainability of our planet and compliance with current environmental legislation.
