Experts from the Inorganic Chemistry Research Group of the University of Córdoba are developing new building materials for restoration of historic buildings, such as products for facades with a 'self-cleaning' ability. To prepare these materials, experts have used components obtained from industrial waste recycling, recovering their value and preventing storage in landfills and other associated environmental impact.

Members of the Research Group 'Vitenol' as part of the Agrifood Campus of International Excellence of Andalusia (ceiA3) at the University of Córdoba XXIV received the Research Award 'José Luis Iglesias Messiah' Santa Ana granted to the University Center best research presented at the Symposium of Enology and Viticulture Tierra de Barros.

Members of 'Vitenol' Research Group at the University of Córdoba, which is part of the Agrifood Campus of International Excellence of Andalusia (ceiA3) received the XXXV Research Award 'José Luis Iglesias Messiah' granted by Santa Ana University Center to best research work presented at the Symposium of Enology and Viticulture in Tierra de Barros.

 

Researchers at Agricultural Chemistry Department of University of Córdoba and Agrifood Campus of International Excellence ceiA3 have developed a new method for making sweet red wines from Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot grape varieties, as reported by Fundación Descubre. According to experts, these varieties are characterized by their intense red color and have been widely implemented in the Andalusian wine production sector in recent years. Specifically, scientists have focused on the red grape drying process. Using a chamber under controlled conditions of temperature and humidity, they have managed to keep the maximum typical red color of the musts, decrease time, avoid appearance of the brown color that commonly takes place as a result of traditional sun-drying  and increase associated antioxidant activity.
